Welcome to the world of Hybrid Synergy Drive. A place where we recycle energy. Roll over the battery to find out how you can start recycling energy now.

Loading Fuel Economy

It's no secret, city driving bumps up the petrol costs on most cars. However, the new Auris HSD isn't like most cars.

For starters, it recycles energy and has two engines. One petrol. One electric. A perfect match to deliver 3.8l/100km. And when driving in Eco Mode, you can reduce that figure even further.

However, if you want to get rid of that figure completely, simply select electric EV-mode, go easy on the pedal and you won't use a single drop when accelerating up to 50km/h.

The New Auris HSD has two engines. One petrol, one electric. They work together to deliver extra power and responsive torque, as and when you need it. To be more precise, it produces 136hp. But should you need any extra performance, simply press the Power button and enjoy the ride.

Pulling away:
When pulling away gently. The Petrol engine rests.

Uphill:
Both engines power the vehicle to deliver maximum performance.

Deceleration and braking:
The system recycles energy kinetic energy to charge the electric motor.

Overtaking:
Both engines power the vehicle to deliver maximum performance.

Standstill:
Both engines are automatically switched off so no energy is wasted idling.

Loading Emissions

The perfect partnership of an electric motor and a petrol engine means the New Auris HSD emits only 89g of CO2 per km. Amazing for a family car, really.

In fact, when driving in electric EV-mode, it can go from 0-50 km/h without producing any emissions whatsoever. Basically, you'd find more CO2 in a balloon.

No wonder Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive has just won the 'Green Engine of the Year' award for the 4th time. Take a deep breath and then click below for a test drive.

Loading Quietness

Select the electric EV-mode on the new Auris HSD and enjoy the silence. It's something you have to experience to believe.

Electric EV-mode also produces zero emissions and provides an ultra smooth ride. In fact, it's a very tranquil place to be. To find out more about this very quiet car that's making a lot of noise go to the 'Test Drive' link.

Every time you move your mouse, you create energy. Like the Auris HSD, we'll harness the energy to keep this battery charged, which, in turn, will power this world.

Loading Hybrid Synergy Drive

HSD is Toyota's advanced hybrid technology, which combines a petrol engine and an electric motor - that's right, two engines in one car. They combine seamlessly to deliver extra performance and outstanding fuel efficiency. It's also ultra smooth and extremely quiet when driving in electric mode.

And here's the really clever bit. This technology can actually recycle energy. How? Well, when you drive you create energy. Like, braking, for example. With most cars that energy is completely wasted. But with the Auris HSD, it's able to capture the energy and use it again to power the electric motor.
