Active Torque Control System & VSC <strong>Optimised torque</strong><br /><br />
In Auto mode under normal conditions, Urban Cruiser is driven only by its front wheels. The Active Torque Control AWD System automatically applies torque to rear wheels when needed to optimise acceleration, cornering, braking and fuel consumption. In Lock mode, only needed in very slippery conditions, torque is directed to either axle in proportion to wheel grip.
<br /><br /><strong>Maximum traction & stability</strong><br /><br />
For the best possible traction all Urban Cruiser grades feature Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRC). TRC prevents wheel spin under acceleration. VSC automatically adjusts engine output and applies brake force to specific wheels to regain control during under- or oversteer caused by skidding or an emergency situation.
Advanced suspension To give you and your passengers a smooth, comfortable ride Urban Cruiser features MacPherson strut suspension in the front and torsion beam suspension in the rear.

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Toyota has used advanced engineering techniques to design a close-coupled Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) that regenerates without consuming extra fuel.
Safety Secure structure, reinforced doors Urban Cruiser has been engineered with impact absorbing materials and a crushable structure. Impact energy is distributed throughout the rigid structure and directed to the under-frame, shielding driver and passengers. An impact-absorbing structure in the bonnet serves to protect pedestrians in the event of an accident.

Additional protection is provided by absorbing pads under the dash protecting legs and feet. Reinforced front & rear doors include additional padding.
Full airbag protection To ensure the security of all occupants Urban Cruiser has seven SRS airbags, including curtain shields and a driver’s knee airbag fitted strategically to help reduce injury in a collision. This full safety protection, standard on all grades, puts Urban Cruiser in a class-leading position.
Active front headrests On impact, a sensor recognises that the passenger’s lower back is pressed hard against the seatback. The headrest automatically moves diagonally upward and forward to catch the back of the head. This alleviates neck impact and reduces risk of whiplash in the event of a rear-end collision.
Disc brakes, VSC & TRC Standard on Urban Cruiser, front and rear disc brakes are coupled with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). VSC automatically applies the brake to the appropriate wheel to help prevent skidding when turning or on slippery road surfaces.

If you accelerate too hard and cause the drive wheels to lose grip and begin spinning, Traction Control (TRC) instantly reduces engine power to help restore traction.
All Wheel Drive In normal road conditions, drive is through the front wheels. But on loose or slippery surfaces the All Wheel Drive* (AWD) system automatically and continuously distributes the torque between front and rear wheels to optimise traction and driving stability. This also maximises fuel economy.

ABS & EBD Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) helps you maintain control by electronically balancing the braking force between all four wheels to match the level grip of each one. Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) complements this by optimising brake force distribution between each wheel. Together the two systems help prevent the wheels from locking, and allow you to steer around obstacles as you halt.
3-point seat belts Standard for all grades are 3-point Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) front seat belts with pre-tensioners and force-limiters. There are even seat belt reminders for both front and rear occupants.
