1/X

The Toyota  1/X is an environmental concept vehicle designed to advance Toyota’s fuel reduction and CO2 emission strategies through attractive urban transport.

It combines strong but lightweight vehicle construction with Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle(PHV) and Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) technology.

Weighing just 420kg, it tips the scales at a third of a Prius - but offers the same interior space. With good cause, therefore, Toyota’s engineers and designers target a fuel efficiency of around 2.17l/100km.

The environmental considerations of the Toyota 1/X go beyond ultra low fuel consumption, however. The PHV technology means the Toyota 1/X will achieve zero emissions when running in full electric mode.

On longer trips the Toyota 1/X reverts to conventional hybrid technology, combining a rear-mounted 500cc engine and battery to power it. At night the battery can be recharged from a conventional mains outlet.

The Toyota 1/X concept further reduces its dependence on fossil fuels through the Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) technology that is used in combination with the PHV drivetrain. This allows the Toyota 1/X to run on bioethanol fuel, standard petrol, or a combination of both. Cleaner fuels and lightweight construction really further the reduction of the car’s impact on the environment.
