New Toyota Yaris achieves 5 stars in Euro NCAP tests

Best ever Euro NCAP adult occupant protection score for Toyota  
Equipped with the segment’s first driver knee airbag 
Minimal Intrusion Cabin System provides efficient impact energy dispersion     

The new Toyota Yaris has been awarded a 5-star safety rating and 35 points for adult protection in the latest round of Euro NCAP safety tests.

The 35 points for adult protection is simultaneously the highest score ever for a Toyota car. In addition, the new Yaris scored 2 stars in pedestrian protection and 3 stars in the child protection rating.

Building class-leading safety into compact cars, like the new Toyota Yaris, is a significant engineering challenge due to their compact body size and very short front overhang. This 5-star result is a recognition of the high levels of safety Toyota is committed to provide to its customers.

Driver and passenger front and side airbags, curtain shield airbags and a driver’s knee airbag (a first in the segment) are available and there is a seat-belt warning system (with variable intensity buzzer) for both front seat passengers.

The Yaris body structure has been developed using Toyota’s Minimal Intrusion Cabin System (MICS) technology which effectively disperses the energy of frontal or side impacts through the body in order to divert it away from the passenger cell and minimise cabin deformation.

Furthermore, the new Yaris is the first car to be developed by Toyota according to more stringent internal car-to-car crash test standards. These simulate a 55 km/h (both vehicles travelling at 55 km/h) impact with a two-ton vehicle in frontal 50% overlap, side and rear 50% overlap collisions.

The 5-star rating for adult protection for the new Toyota Yaris follows the similar 5 star score of the Toyota Avensis, Corolla Verso and Prius.
