The ‘economy’ is delivered by the new 1.6D-4D (Direct injection – 4-stroke Diesel) in the engine bay. The new engine weighs in about 20 kg less than the 2.0D-4D, and delivers 112 DIN hp and 270 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 2,250 rpm. Enough to accelerate the Verso from 0-100 km/h in 12.7 seconds, and on to a top speed of 185 km/h.
The engine delivers an 8% improvement in fuel efficiency over the 2.0 D-4D unit, equating to a fuel consumption of 4.5 l/100 km in the combined homologation cycle. Simultaneously, CO2 emissions have reduced from 129 to only 119 g/km. These figures are supported by the first ever adoption of a Stop & Start system in the Verso range.
In the cabin behind, a First Class experience is secured by a combination of new upholsteries (Light Grey or Dark Grey) and improved equipment levels. Notably the in-car multimedia system Toyota Touch® 2 received a significant upgrade, with a higher resolution (800x480) for the 6.1” touch screen. The system is now able to display and drive several additional vehicle functions, and the user interface has been redesigned to include ‘drag and flick’ control. It is also ‘MirrorLink’-ready, which enables users to connect compatible smartphones and then operate them entirely from the system’s touch screen.
Toyota Touch® also provides the base for a choice of 2 navigation upgrades, Go and Go Plus, which include online functions such as Google Street View and Panoramio.
The 2014 Verso can be specified with a new exterior colour, Avantgarde Bronze and with a new alloy wheel design.
