What’s the difference between Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid?

Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid cars use the same proven Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive technology, but with a notable difference.

Toyota Plug-in Hybrids feature a significantly higher capacity battery and a greater EV range of up to 75km. Plug-ins can be charged from an external electricity source, such as a domestic socket, a dedicated wallbox or on-street charger. While charging as often as possible will allow for maximum efficiency, Toyota Plug- in Hybrids run in Hybrid mode even when uncharged.

When in Hybrid mode, all Toyota Hybrids switch seamlessly between two power sources – an efficient petrol engine and an intelligent self-charging Hybrid battery. This offers a high degree of flexibility, particularly for longer journeys.

Is it fun to drive as well as efficient?

The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid is playfully responsive and powerful, delivering an enjoyable driving experience. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds thanks to its impressive traction and 306 DIN hp output.

With lower CO2 emissions and better efficiency than a conventional combustion-engine car, RAV4 Plug- in Hybrid delivers an even greater fuel economy performance (22g CO2 / 1.0L fuel combined). As well as this, RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid offers all the benefits of an incredible EV drive – from powerful instant torque to a fully silent interior space.
