Creating a positive social impact

Producing Happiness for All
We’re aiming to be the Best Company in Town, on our way to achieving our mission to produce happiness for all. That’s why we’re working with partners in local communities on activities that improve people’s lives and support their well-being.

Our approach

We want to make a positive impact  to the communities in which we operate. We focus on developing partnerships that create value both for our company and for society. As always, our actions are guided by the values in the Toyota Way 2020, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and the European Pillar of Social Rights.

Volunteering

Building on a foundation of fundamental human rights, we believe that health, safety and well-being are essential to producing happiness for all. To meet our goal of creating shared value, we work with local partners to channel the efforts of our volunteers to support people in need. Engaging in these activities in the community also helps employees develop a sense of purpose and meaning. Volunteering is good for society, for our company, and for our employees’ well-being.

Education

We develop educational programmes that improve diversity and inclusion, both within Toyota and in the community. One example is our “Girls STEM the Future” programme that aims to break stereotypes by bringing young people into contact with role models. They share development stories, along with examples of the wide range of career opportunities available in society and at Toyota.

Another example is the Dr. Van Zyl grant programme, in honour of the late Dr. van Zyl, former CEO of Toyota Motor Europe who was passionate about uplifting underserved groups or individuals through new education initiatives. Our hope is that these activities will help us become a better company in the future by creating a positive impact in society today.

Disaster recovery for communities

Natural or human-made disasters affect all parts of society, including our partners, customers, and employees. That’s why Toyota supports local communities impacted by disasters across Europe, helping them to recover quickly, and minimising societal impact.

We do this by working with local partners in the community. They help us understand how to engage volunteers, so we can provide the materials and mobility people need. If a disaster does occur, our action plans and budgets are in place, so that we can act without delay.

Sports and athlete support

Toyota has supported sports since 1937 with its first track club. Sports symbolise teamwork and growth, benefiting both athletes and Toyota employees.
